Social and Family History Mr. Figueroa is the youngest of 14 children, born in Puerto Rico. His father was a farmer, his mother stayed home to look after her children. Mr. Figueroa helped his father on the farm, but eventually decided to leave home to come to the mainland U.S. He came with two friends, and originally went to Lorain to look for work. He is the only one of his siblings to leave Puerto Rico, and since coming to the mainland, he has returned only for visits. Mr. Figueroa married in 1953. His wife is not Puerto Rican; he describes her as “beautiful.” His wife has a history of several physical ailments that have, from time to time, limited her activities. Nevertheless, she and Mr. Figueroa have four children. All of these children are grown, and live within an hour of their home. One son lives with Mr. Figueroa and his wife.
