Mr. Figueroa lives in a ranch style house in a lower-middle class neighborhood. His wife, who lives with him, has several physical ailments that limit her activities. She is, however, able to look after the home, and is, according to Mr. Figueroa, an excellent cook. An adult son lives with the couple. Although Mr. Figueroa was not specific about the circumstances, the impression conveyed was that the son had some difficulties living independently. It was not clear whether the son was able to contribute to household tasks or to the family’s finances.
