Family concerns

Two concerns are immediately apparent. One is his wife's illness. It seems that at present, this does not cause substantial problems, but over time many dilemmas could emerge. Her health might deteriorate, requiring a higher level of care than Mr. Figueroa can provide. His health might deteriorate, making him less able to manage her needs. Issues such as sexuality can become major concerns as health changes, and caregiving for a spouse has the potential to be difficult both physically and psychologically. If Mr. Figueroa predeceases her, or if she needs nursing home care, finances could become a major concern.

A second dilemma is the situation of the son. It is not clear from the interview whether the son's presence is a help, a hindrance or neutral. More information is needed.
