Maintaining indepedence

Among the conditions associated with normal aging, changes in strength and flexibility, visual changes, and AAMI can make closets more difficult to manage. In addition, changes in balance might be problematic, particularly if, for example, the closet requires the older adult to lean into the space, or if heavy garments must be pulled out. A well older adult might have difficulty reaching a high shelf or remembering where he or she stored some article of clothing. Inadequate lighting might make it difficult to see garments or determine their color. Items placed in drawers might be forgotten since they are out of sight.
