Feelings About Death and Dying
Mrs. Phillips,
like many African-American women, is not afraid to confront her mortality.
For her, as for many African-Americans, great solace is found in religious
beliefs. These beliefs may help stave off fear of the inevitable by promising
future life in the hereafter. Family solidarity is also important for many
African-Americans as they face death.
