Education and Work History, Financial Circumstances

Mr. Bynum completed the 11th grade while living in Mississippi. Upon discharge from the military, he moved around a bit then settled in Cleveland where he got his first job working at a car dealership. While working there, he continued to job hunt. He found a job in a steel company where he worked for 15 years. He then secured a G.I. loan and started his own business. He purchased a building and opened a bar/nightclub then added a beverage store and a fish market. He was able to purchase the building cheaply and did a lot of remodeling himself. Eventually, he had four storefronts and seven apartments.

Ultimately, he sold the building for same amount that he had paid for it. Shortly thereafter, it was demolished, a fact that troubles him greatly. He feels that he was driven out of business by politicians who treated him unfairly and that the old neighborhood is changing.

Mr. Bynum manages his own finances. He has checking and savings accounts and reports that his only regular bills are his rent and telephone expenses. From his military pension and social security, he has sufficient income to cover those expenses and any additional expenditure. He feels quite comfortable financially.
