Having read the article by Joseph Nye outlining the notion that Japan has experienced several periods in the modern era during which the nation looked outside itself for inspiration and found it in the West, speculate on the nature of the current "soft power" ties between the United States and Japan in terms of the kinds of influences you might suspect as moving from the United States to Japan over the course of the past decade or so.
