HIS 227 / PSC 227, POWER AND AUTHORITY
IN NONWESTERN SOCIETIES
SPRING
SEMESTER 2003
ASSIGNMENT TWELVE
DUE: FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2003
Recalling
earlier class discussions on reinventing the Emperor in Meiji Era Japan (1868
-1912) and on the "soft power" influence of Japan on contemporary
American popular culture (and vice versa), in the long run which
nation -- Japan or the United States -- do you think has been more influenced
by the other. Why? What evidence might you provide to support that supposition?
