Some Moonviewing Poetry

Click on the picture below to be taken to a web version of a PowerPoint presentation introducing you to some translated Japanese poetry coupled with examples of various traditional arts and crafts. The poems all employ the moon as a common motif while the associated artifacts are often connected either to another image found in the poetry or to the mood the poem is meant to evoke.

As you view the eighteen short poems, jot down observations prompted by the experience touched on in the assignment questions. When you have finished viewing the presentation, write up your findings in a brief paragraph or two and comment as well on your reactions to the entire exercise.

THE PRESENTATION CAN BE VIEWED ONLY USING INTERNET EXPLORER BROWSER SOFTWARE -- NETSCAPE NAVIGATOR WON'T SHOW THE SLIDES PROPERLY. ALSO NOTE THAT THIS IS A HUGE FILE AND MAY NOT BE EASILY DOWNLOADED OVER A DIAL-UP CONNECTION; YOU MIGHT CHOOSE TO VIEW OR PRINT OUT A COPY USING A UNIVERSITY COMPUTER ON CAMPUS INSTEAD.

You can choose to view the presentation FULL SCREEN by clikcing on SLIDE SHOW at the lower right of the screen (then just click your mouse to proceed through the entire exercise slide by slide); you can also use the ARROWS at the center of the screen to move back and forth in the presentation. To toggle the OUTLINE and NOTES screen ON or OFF, just click on either of the two words at the left bottom of the screen.
