PPG Glass Fiber Production
Glass fiber can be produced smoothly and stably with a high speed. In order to keep this production, no single fiber is allowed to be broken, so an effective fiber diameter detection solution is eagerly needed. This raises a new challenge, not only for fibers are made by mass production and continuous manufacture, but for high-speed (120 mile per hour) fiber stretch as well. It is not easy to find when fiber runs under the period of risk. High-speed image analysis method has been deployed to solve this problem recently. For the image analysis, two assumptions have been made, but till now only one resolution is satisfied.  Manually operation on this method has been proved to be a good way, now further research has started out to focus on the automatic detection with no human interruption.
