The frieze in the Czech Cultural Garden illustrates the history of the Czech people from the founding of Bohemia to their migration to America. The frieze was origionally topped with the busts of Smetana, Tyrs, Purkyne, and Nemcova.

“The events of the past few days have enraged many of us,” said Manak today.  “Many of us lost confidence in what we thought was human friendship and understanding.  In the face of all that is being spoken and written at the present time by authors of propaganda, we have decided to carve in stone a short history of the Czechs in the hope that it will serve to keep alive in the minds of the people of Cleveland the truth as only we know it.”

-President of the Czech Cultural Garden Association Frank C. Manek Jr in an article from 26 September 1938 (Plain Dealer Morgue)
