Bozena Nemcova: (1820-1862) Bohemian Novelist Born Barbora Panklova, she acquired a Czech nationalist consciousness from her grandmother during childhood. In 1845, she took Bozena as her pen name (after marriage) and began her literary career. Her best-known novel is Babicka (The Grandmother) a simple moving portrait of Czech village life.
