Bibliography on Guatemalan and Central American Spanish

Compiled by Laura Martin, Ph.D.
Last revision August 2006

Available from this page is a bibliography (in .pdf format) that includes a variety of materials on Guatemalan and Central American Spanish. It also includes relevant materials on linguistic topics, such as contact situations, syntactic phenomena, history of Spanish and the like, that are useful in the analysis of data from Guatemala . The bibliography is neither exhaustive nor catalogued. It merely reflects my own reading over the years on a variety of topics of interest to me and emphasizes older materials, especially those related to the questions posed by the long interaction of Spanish with Mayan languages in Guatemala , Chiapas , and the Yucatan Peninsula . Items currently listed are either in my possession or have been reviewed by me. Also available is a list of bibliographic resources available on-line. Additional items for either bibliography are welcome, and updates will be posted at irregular intervals. Send comments and contributions to the email given on the home page of Resources for Guatemalan Spanish.
