INDIA EXPERIENCE: Activities

Welcome to the Activities Session

Activities on June 27, 2007

This was a day for lectures, research, paper writing and getting caught up on past due work. The lecture in the morning by Professor Charles was on “Panchayath Raj Institutions” - about the local self government system in Kerala and the effect of the grassroots movement on it. All the information was new to us and there is so much more to learn about the political structure, involvement of the people, and the workings of the government. We could spend the whole month just on this topic.

After lunch next lecture by Professor Joseph was on disability rehabilitation issues in India. We received an overview of services available to the disabled. The family and society reaction to the disabled person was also discussed. Difficulty to implement model services for the physically and mentally challenged are also highlighted in this presentation. Our professor was great and is a true advocate for the disabled.

After high tea it was time to get some work done and to use the well stocked library for research. The college is very generous to let us use all the facilities.
