INDIA EXPERIENCE: Reflections

Welcome to the Reflections Session

Reflections on June 16, 2007

Each day that goes by gets more and more interesting. We visited the girls orphanage today, ate a meal on a banana leaf, and visited art museums. I have never been in a museum that shoes were not allowed, it was wonderful. As each day passes I am in continual disbelief on how everyone here is so friendly and kind. It is just amazing?

Today we went to the girls home for orphans, neglected abused and abundant girls. Seventy girls are in the home right now and aged between age 4 and 17. The staff at the home was the most loving and caring you can imagine. The girls were very excited to have visitors and were so happy joyful and loving that it is hard to believe they arrived at their home due to bad circumstances. This was a wonderful day.

Today was an eye opener for me when I encountered all the beautiful girls at the orphanage. I feel happy for them. We also went to a museum with the older girls, which was located in a beautiful compound surrounded by gardens.

The one thing of importance I learned from the visit to the orphanage was to always smile. Learning of the girls situation and stories really taught me a lot. One should always remain humble, be open to learn and share with their neighbor. I believe that Kerela is more beautiful because of the girls in the orphanage. I believe this experience of spending the day doing activities with the girls made our group of students even closer.

I had a great time at the orphanage today! I loved the girls they were so friendly and smiled at us continuously. They all ask the same questions. They wanted to know the size of the family I came from, how many siblings I have, and what my mother and father do for a living.

Today I had a wonderful time at the orphanage. It was heard worming to see how excited the girls were to see us. I feel very lucky to have visited and to have made some of the girls smile and laugh. I could see Amma in each one of these girls.

Today we went to visit and give gifts to girls of an orphanage. It was very hard touching when all those girls came over to great us. Five of them took my hand and hugged me and gave me a tour of an orphanage. It was very nice to see that even though for some the parents have died, they were still happy. I was amazed of how fast I got attached to Shahana and the other girls. These girls brought a smile to my face and also made me realize how materialist American society is sometimes.

The girls at the orphanage were nice. Dr. Nair was very active, okay. We visited a mental hospital and watched the patients do crafts. The scent in the air is very different and exotic.

Today was filled with many wonderful and new experiences. We met the girls at the orphanage, they were so nice and loved all the visitors. They did my hair in a beautiful style and I was very excited. We went to an art museum and ended the day on educational note.

After breakfast we headed to an orphanage where everyone was friendly. The girls grabbed our arms and let around their house. They loved playing with my blond hair. Then we all went to the museum together.

Today was interesting, we went to the orphanage and interacted with the girls. We played games and passed out gifts to the girls. We went to an art museum and I enjoyed it very much. Talking to the girls and observing their mannerism taught me a lot.
