INDIA EXPERIENCE: Reflections

Welcome to the Reflections Session

Reflections on June 22, 2007

Today we took our first class at Loyola College with Professor MK George. We studied social analysis skills in small groups and I really enjoyed working with my fellow travelers. Everyone was really engaged in eth lecture and the professor seemed passionate and astute. I enjoyed discussing the topic of social analyses with the class and my small group.

Today we listened to a lecture given to us by Dr. George, the president of Loyola College. It was very interesting!! Three areas were stressed; self analysis, social analysis, and God/ universe. The ideas were very applicable and really made me think.

Today we had our first lecture at the college that was presented by the president of the college. The subject was social analysis. I like the fact that he stressed the importance of being open, considering all sides, and coming up with a solution in understanding social analysis.

We went to our first lecture by Father George on social analysis. We used social analysis to compare Indian and American culture. Later in the evening I got a chance to visit a local hospital because Dagmar was sick. I loved this experience; it was completely different than hospitals back home. Upon entering I was shocked at how unstarial things were and the fact that the emergency department was called “Casualty”. Though all the differences, Dagmar received excellent care.

Our first lecture was today, given by Dr. George, the director of the college. It was interactive, very useful, and practical for our future in personal and professional application. “Social Analysis/Skill for Survival” was the topic and we applied our newly learned skills to a social issue. I feel like I walked away with some new knowledge I can truly use.

Today we had our first lecture. Father George did a wonderful job on presenting social analysis. He was able to integrate the American culture to an Indian culture in many ways. The thing I enjoyed the most was getting into groups and discussing the topic. I also enjoyed talking to graduate social work students about our culture.

I enjoyed the lecture today. I felt the classroom was comfortable. I met graduate social workers and I felt they were very curious about our culture. We danced with the students. I found out that some of the Indian students would like to work in the U.S.

Today was a very relaxing day. We had our lecture about social analysis and then we had the rest of the day to ourselves. It felt good to relax a little, because most of our days are very busy. I was very grateful.

Today we went to our lecture. I was very tired because a couple of us stayed up telling ghost stories while the power was out. The lecture was about social work and evaluating a situation. We were supposed to go to the library, but the power was out. Instead we got some much needed rest and relaxation.

Angel Garskie

Today we attended our first lecture given by Father George. He spoke on social analysis: skill for survival. Father George spoke about how one should examine something in order to understand more about it. He also discussed how to separate the two into parts so you can understand or explain it as the time comes.
