CLEVELAND STATE UNIVERSITY summer program brings students to Kerala, India
Nine credit course on Contemporary Social Issues in India (SWK 499)
Approved as a Writing Across the Curriculum, Foreign Culture, Nonwestern & Civilization and Social Science course.
Students will immerse themselves in the life of India while exploring social, economic and cultural issues. Your home base will be the enchanted Kerala, in the southwest corner of India, a region identified as the only place in the world with almost 100% literacy.
This program offers the unique experience of living with host families and of direct observation and involvement in Indian traditions and cultural practices as well as learning from local experts and from professors at the University of Kerala, Loyola College.
ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
Lectures and discussions at the local universities.
Visits to villages to meet with residents and school children
Mini Internship opportunities
Visits to social organizations
Visits to historical places, artisan markets, wildlife habitats
Classical Indian dance and music
Neighborhood festivals
Experience of living with your Indian fellow students and host family
Communication with families and friends back home through the CSU web site.
