Abstract: The advent of Web-based participant pool management software enhances the ability of psychology researchers to conduct online surveys. However, without careful implementation, online surveys, when they are in competition with studies requiring more effort, have the potential to threaten participants' rights to a debriefing, external validity of participant pool research, and equitable researcher access to participants. We outline these threats, present an illustrative example, and discuss our use of 1 potential solution to all 3 problems: the in-person education session.
