TEACHING ABOUT EAST ASIA

JAPAN-RELATED RESOURCES

For the latest news from Japan, check out Japan Today, a comprehensive online news source that draws from numerous publications in Japan. A more specific Japanese perspective on the day's events can be had from the pages of Yomiuri, one of Japan's leading daily newspapers, or from articles and photographs appearing in the Asahi, another major Japanese daily. The Japan Times has always been an important news source for English-speaking folks resident in Japan; its on-line presense is especially noteworthy for its feature article coverage. A fourth nifty news site is located at the Mainichi Shimbun site. The Kyoto Shimbun provides an overview of its offerings about events in the ancient capital and surrounding areas.

The East Asian Libraries Co-Op Japan Page will plug you into a number of sites. Another link especially useful for those web sites appearing only in Japanese language versions allows you access to a Japanese language web browser called Shodouka. The J Guide at Stanford University will provide lots more information as will this Yahoo site.

Interested in what's happening in the world of Japanese business? Check out Nikkei Net.

Several good lists of resources and teaching units for those seeking lesson plans and other information can be found at AskAsia (From the Asia Society in New York City).
