On August 12, 2003, Heidi and Lee Makela set off on a series of travel adventures in connection with Lee's sabbatical semester to be spent as Visiting Scholar at the Japan Center for Michigan Universities in Hikone, Japan. Since this is the first opportunity Heidi has had to accompany Lee on his extended stays in Japan, we decided to expand our travels to include visits to Thailand and Hong Kong.

The results of our experiences are cataloged within these web pages in two related formats, a summary of highlights and a more detailed set of entries. When major additions are made to the web site, we will send out email notifications to those expressing any interest at all in these summations of our adventures. We hope you enjoy the results as much as we have enjoyed living through these experiences.
