EVALUATION CRITERIA  

In preparing your essay, students are urged to consult the standards for written work found in the DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY STYLE SHEET.  Your responses to these assignments will be evaluated with reference to the following specific standards:
  • communicates using effective English and correct grammar / punctuation / spelling;
  • composes effective sentences; 
  • organizes effective paragraphs;
  • develops a full essay-style approach (including an introduction containing a thesis statement, a body of supporting evidence and a summary conclusion);

  •    
  • underlines / italicizes foreign terms and book titles;
  • identifies authors and citation sources adequately;
  • defines terms appropriately;

  •    
  • demonstrates an understanding of terminology;
  • applies terminology effectively and accurately in an analytical context;
  • balances generalization and supporting / clarifying / elaborating / explanatory / detailed evidence / illustration / example;
  • evidences depth of insight / perceptive analytical depth.
