WHAT'S NEW on the WEB SITE

The items listed below have recently been altered in some significant way or have been added to the site.

  • Essay Assignment Four has been uploaded to the web site along with a revised schedule for the final week of the course. (Wednesday, April 27, 2005)
  • A revised version of Essay Assignment Three has been uploaded to the web site. Note that the Due Date has shifted from that found in the earlier version of this section of the course. (Wednesday, March 23, 2005)

  • A major revision of the section of the course dealing with "POWER" AND "AUTHORITY" AS A CULTURAL CONSTRUCT IN JAPAN has been uploaded to the web site; additional revisions will be made over the coming week -- stay tuned! (Monday, March 21, 2005)

  • An extra credit project assignment (involving attendance at an illustrated lecture on the Three Gordges Dam Project at John Carroll University on Monday, March 14, 2005) has been uploaded to the course web site. (Monday, February 28, 2005)

  • Here is the (up-until-now missing) log-in information for the PASSWORD-PROTECTED COURSE MATERIALS portion of the course web site functioning under WebCT.

To set up your initial My WebCT page, go to the ENTRY PAGE for WebCT {by clicking on the preceding underlined words}, then clicking on "Create myWebCT" and filling in the banks there as requested.

When finished, click "CONTINUE" at the bottom of the page and enter the Personal ID and Password for the page you have just created to bring up your newly-created My WebCT page.

Click on ADD A COURSE, then click HISTORY in the column to the left of the page that comes up. Find "Power and Authority" in the course list; click on the plus sign and then enter your family name (with a capital first letter) in both USER NAME and PASSWORD blanks. Click "continue" and follow the directions there to complete the process adding this course to your My WebCT page.

From this point, whenever you access the PASSWORD-PROTECTED COURSE MATERIALS section of the course web site, use the Personal ID and Password you used to set up your My WebCT page to access the course list (and from there the protected portion of the web site itself). (Monday, February 14, 2005)

  • Essay Assignment Two (due Friday, March 25, 2005) has been uploaded. (Monday, February 7, 2005)

  • Essay Assignment One (together with links to evaluation standards and a style sheet) has been been uploaded to the course web site. The essay is dues Monday, February 7, 2005. (Tuesday, Janaury 25, 2005)

  • The home page list of links has been altered so as to reflect the fact that the "assignment" listing (now "essay assignments") does not include the daily classroom assignments some students have expected to find there; those assignments are found in the course schedule (along with associated reading and other classroom related materials) under the appropriate due date. The links to individual essay assignments will appear shortly on the essay assignment page. (Thursday, January 20, 2005)
