SHORT ANALYTICAL RESEARCH ESSAY GUIDELINES AND ASSIGNMENTS

To be considered complete, these analytical essays (three to five pages in length) must contain a readily identifiable thesis statement, a series of supporting generalizations and appropriate specific examples and illustrations.

The essay that follows must proceed, in an organized and structured way, to support your chosen thesis. In doing so, your responsibility is to convince me that you have undertaken significant research, locating in the process relevant and valuable resources from a variety of sources (books, articles and Internet web sites); that you have thorogughly read and digested these materials; and that you are able to integrate them into an analysis that incorporates as well specific and documented references to class presentations and discusssions, themes developed in the course and assigned readings.

Students are urged to consult the instructor at any time before the due date for each essay assignment to discuss the appropriateness of a chosen topic, to review an outline of essay contents, to seek comments on a draft version of the essay or to discuss the writing process in general..
