Michelle’s Home Page History 370 Bio
Thank
you for your interest in my website. My name is Michelle Burk, and I am
currently a senior at Cleveland State University, in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. I
expect to graduate in May, 2004 with a degree in History and Integrated
Social Studies. I suppose I will try to get a job as a high school teacher,
but who knows, I may end up doing palm readings at the County Fair. I grew up
in the greater Cleveland area and have also attended Cuyahoga Community
College, and the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Technically I am
approaching my sixth year of college, but I’ve had trouble focusing on my
studies with all the fun I have been having with my little girl. Below is a
picture of us in October, 2002. Her name is Madeline, and she was born in
July, 2001. Yes, we are on two opposite ends of the Caucasian spectrum, but
she really is mine.
I enrolled in the
Summer Workshop in World History for Teachers expecting a content-based
course about world history. I received a memo from Dr. Makela, the course
instructor, indicating that the course would have an emphasis on site
construction (as you can clearly see here!) and I was happy to hear this,
even though just two short years ago, I swore that I hated computers. I was
excited to learn more about technology so that I could open myself up to
something new and hopefully develop further as a teacher. Here is a picture
of me in class, before I really understood what I was getting into, hence the
smile.
Thanks to Dr. Makela,
for offering a course like this. Even though it was a lot of work, I learned how
to create a web-based teaching unit!!! Thanks to Roland Heck,
my classmate at CSU for playing e-mail tag with me and cheering me on through
the project. Thanks to Madeline,
for staying asleep until at least 6 a.m. Thanks to Sal Calanni
for encouraging me in all of my endeavors, at all hours of the morning. |
