I have studied and volunteered in the slave quarter archaeological sites at Poplar Forest, Thomas Jefferson's retreat home near Lynchburg, Virginia, during parts of five summers.  I hope to go there again to work for a week in August, 2003.  

       I have also served an archaeological internship at The Hermitage, Andrew Jackson's home near Nashville, Tennessee.
