THE HISTORY OF JAPAN



ESSAY ASSIGNMENTS


Both of the two essays required for HIS 371 / 571, THE HISTORY OF JAPAN, should be between six and nine pages in length (nine to eleven pages for those enrolled in HIS 571), typewritten, double-spaced, and must contain appropriate annotation and a bibliography of sources used (not sources consulted).  
  
To be considered complete, each essay must contain a readily identifiable thesis statement, a series of supporting generalizations and appropriate specific examples and illustrations.  The essays must be analytical in approach (not descriptive) and must conform to the following topic assignments.  In meeting the above requirements, students should conform to the standards established and described in the HISTORY DEPARTMENT STYLE SHEET.
