TEACHING ABOUT EAST ASIA

JOURNAL ASSIGNMENT TWO

Taking into account our seminar discussion on Chinese and Japanese geography (and any of the assigned reading you might have completed), what specific subcatagories would you consider part of an introductory survey of this important subject matter area to be included as part of an introduction to China, Japan, Korea or East Asia in general, one appropriate to a given (or anticipated) school setting in which you might find yourself asked to consider such a topic -- and why would you include this particular information?

How might a consideration of geography be made relevant to one or more of the areas of interest involving East Asia that you identified in Journal Assignment One?

As you ponder these questions, you might take an extended look at Ronald Knapp's GEOGRAPHY of China Internet web site for inspiration (as recommended on the seminar's INTERNET WEB SITES page).

This site has been prepared by Lee A. Makela for the use of teachers enrolled in the Freeman Seminar at Cleveland State University, Cleveland, Ohio, USA, between January and March 2005; please contact him by email with any comments at l.makela@csuohio.edu.
