TEACHING ABOUT EAST ASIA

JOURNAL ASSIGNMENT FIVE

Please provide for your fellow participants an annotated bibliographic listing of recommended resources you would find (or have found) particularly useful in preparation for teaching one (or more) of the topics treated in our last seminar session dealing with the Japanese Shinto religion (or suggested in the assigned reading for the seminar).

For this assignment, prepare (and post to the Bulletin Board on the password-protected portion of the course web site, if at all possible) a list of (a) source materials you would suggest as particularly useful in preparing to teach the topic you have chosen to focus upon and (b) actual instructional materials instructors might consider using in the classroom itself or being used by students as part of the lesson plans being presented.

When posting to the course Bulletin Board, for easier reference by others, list the topic you are presenting as the subject for your posted remarks. In your annotation, include both a brief synopsis of the source's content and a comment or two on why you consider it to be such a useful resource.

As you search out appropriate materials, consider especially resources found in the books (and on the course web site) provided for seminar reading, reflection and reference.

Please post your annotated bibliographies no later than Tuesday, March 1, 2005 -- and come back to the site on Thursday to read through everyone else's contributions! If this assignments works as well as intended, the resulting postings should provide all participants with a wealth of information to consider in future curriculum planning.

This site has been prepared by Lee A. Makela for the use of teachers enrolled in the Freeman Seminar at Cleveland State University, Cleveland, Ohio, USA, between January and March 2002; please contact him by email with any comments at l.makela@csuohio.edu.
