TEACHING ABOUT EAST ASIA

JOURNAL ASSIGNMENT SIX

From among the various materials assigned for the seminar session dealing with Buddhism in China and Japan, chose one resource (NOT a topic) as the basis for a lesson plan (or series of lesson plans) and elucidate for your fellow participants how you would deal with the subject matter therein in a course you already teach or plan to teach (one wherein a consideration of this material would be appropriate).

For this assignment, prepare (and post to the Bulletin Board on the password-protected portion of the course web site, if at all possible) a list of (a) other source materials you would suggest as particularly useful in preparing to teach the topic you have chosen to focus upon, if any, and (b) actual instructional plans teachers might consider implementing in the classroom itself or being used by students as part of the lesson plans being presented.

When posting to the course Bulletin Board, for easier reference by others, list the topic you are presenting as the subject for your posted remarks. PLEASE POST YOUR LESSON PLAN IN THE CORRECT FORUM to avoid confusion. In your lesson plan annotation, include both a brief synopsis of the recommended resource's content and a comment or two on why you consider it to be such a useful resource. Include a detailed consideration of how you would integrate that resource into your classroom presentation or assignment.

Please post your annotated bibliographies no later than Wednesday, March 6, 2002 -- and come back to the site on Thursday to read through everyone else's contributions! Again, if this assignment works as well as intended, the resulting postings should provide all participants with a wealth of information to consider in future lesson planning.
