THE URBAN SETTING

Osaka's size allows the energetic photographer to encompass a great many facets of contemporary urban life while visual surveying aspects of life and culture in contemporary Japan.

Cityscapes encountered include everything from architecturally futuristic skyscrapers to underground shopping malls to neon-lit night scenes to quiet suburban residential enclaves to cozy side streets crowded with shoppers.

As a port city on the Seto Island Sea, Osaka lately has turned its attention as well to the coastal areas, increasingly now crowded with new attractions such as an aquarium, a Universal Studio theme park and one of the most unusual garbage disposal sites in the entire world.
