THE ISLANDS OF JAPAN

We went ashore in Hagi by Zodiac, landing in the picturesque harbor pictured above. During the early morning we wandered through Tokoji, a quiet and serene Buddhist temple, then visited with a potter in his studio on the outskirts of town. The startling new architecture of the Hagi Uragami Museum proved a perfect setting for the Chinese and Japanese art housed therein which we visited before lunch. We walked through the old samurai residential area in the afternoon, visiting a wealthy merchant's house along the way before returning to the Clipper Odyssey late in the day.
