THE ISLANDS OF JAPAN
![]() |
One of the major urban ports located along the western coast of the main island of Honshu, the city of Kanazawa boasts a long and vibrant history as a center of culture and commerce alike. The Maeda Family built up perhaps the empire's premier castletown here beginning in the late sixteenth century; remnants from the city's traditional heyday still draw visitors today to Kenrokuen, one of the nation's three most famous gardens, as well as to the preserved teahouses and samurai mansions located elsewhere in the city.
