What are Podcasts?

Podcasts are essentially audio (and sometimes video) files on the web that can be downloaded and played on a portable mp3 player. Podcasts also contain an RSS file that automatically allows the software that handles media files for mp3 players (such as iTunes) check for new media files and download them.
