Land Use and the Built Environment of Haydite Quarry

The Physical Planning Committee oversaw the land use and build environment aspects of the project. This group examined topics surrounding current land ownership, land values, and the current and past urban forms. This group worked closely with the Historical, Environmental, and Cultural Resources Committee as both groups looked at the past, current, and future conditions of the site.

This group was in charge of creating maps of the site. Using advanced mapping technologies, conceptual renderings of the site and its’ conditions were created. These maps provided a foundation for the project.

The key focus of this group was to evaluate existing land use and development regulations. Along with this, future land use maps and zoning maps were generated to support details found by the group.

Meet the Physical Planning Committee

Cole Campbell is a Master of Urban Planning and Development Student and is graduating in May of 2026. Cole is passionate about transportation equity and sustainable cities. After graduating, he hopes to return to Grand Rapids, Michigan to begin his career as a city planner. In his free time, Cole loves to watch movies, lift weights, and cook.

Lydia Lynch is a Master of Urban Planning and Development student at CSU graduating in May 2027. With a background in Public Health, Lydia has acted as Health and Wellness Coordinator for the past four years at Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, a CDC based in Warren, Ohio. Lydia’s work focuses on urban reforestation, neighborhood planning, and active transportation advocacy. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, running, and cooking.

Robert Organ is a MUPD student graduating in December 2026. He is passionate about transportation, housing, and equity and hopes to work to improve these vital issues after graduation. As a part of the Physical Planning team, Robert worked on connections to nearby community assets and developing possible uses for the site and nearby vacant parcels. Robert is a former teacher, a current Major in the Ohio Army National Guard, and competes in ultra endurance events in his free time.
