About Me
I am an applied mathematician working as a tenured associate professor in the Department of Mathematics at Cleveland State University. I currently work on modeling, analysis, and simulations for problems involving collective motion in biology, material science, and physics. In 2016, I finished a postdoc in the Department of Mathematical Sciences with some joint work in the Liquid Crystal Institute (LCI) at Kent State University under the direction of Assoc. Prof. Xiaoyu Zheng and Prof. Peter Palffy-Muhoray.
I finished my Ph.D. in Mathematics under the advisement of Professor Leonid Berlyand at Penn State University in August 2014. Throughout my dissertation work, I studied the effective rheological properties and collective motion in bacterial suspensions. Before this, I graduated from the University of Akron with my Bachelors and Masters of Science degrees in four total years in 2009. One of my passions is teaching and I was excited to find out in Fall 2011 I was promoted to Teaching Associate status at Penn State due to my commitment to excellence in teaching. In addition, in Spring 2012 I was awarded the Penn State Department of Mathematics Teaching Award.
I have always loved teaching and the creative freedom to do research. This allows me to combine my love of teaching with the ability to mentor the next generation of scientists. I also am able to continue my research through my interest in mathematical modeling, analysis, and simulations in the areas of Physics and Biology.
I have been fortunate enough to present my work in places such as Granada, Spain, the Mathematics Biosciences Institute at the Ohio State University, at Bar-Ilan Univeristy in Israel at the PDEs and Dynamical Systems in Biology Conference, at ICIAM 2015 in Beijing, China, and I am co-organizing a conference on “Math Models in Biology and Medicine” held at the University Aux-Marseille in Marseille, France.
Originally I am from Mentor, OH and my family still resides in Northeast Ohio. I married my wife in the Summer of 2013 and she is currently a Pediatrician (MD) at Akron Children’s Hospital. My wife and I have two adorable daughters, Nora, who is 8, Eliza, who is 6 and a son, Colin, who is 1. We also have a Westie, Max, who just turned 11. He is active, but loves to hide his bones and steal shoes. My favorite liesure activity is going to the park with my family.
