Workshop on Mathematical Issues of Comples Systems in Biology and Medicine, Marseille, France, Feb. 24-28, 2020

This conference aims to bring together researchers from different mathematical backgrounds and biologists or biophysicists studying complex systems arising in biology and medicine and to discuss new perspectives at the intersection between these different approaches. Starting from a problem coming from biology, we are interested in the whole mathematical process leading to a better understanding of the biological issues through modeling. In particular: interpret the biological data, design a deterministic or probabilistic model, calibrate the model from the experimental data, study the mathematical properties of the model, obtain accurate approximations, and give a biological interpretation of the results. Statistical approaches, used to interpret large sets of experimental data can be then combined with the accurate deterministic or stochastic modeling of the phenomenon under consideration to arrive at a deeper level of understanding. These accurate models can be simplifed into toy models that can be analyzed mathematically. In addition, a numerical treatment of the model can also help provide deeper understanding or further insight into the analysis of the original problem. This week conference will consider the following central questions

3. Parameter Estimation
4. Inverse Problems in Medicine
5. Self-Organization in Biosystems
6. Computational Approaches to Biology and Medicine

2017 NE Ohio Applied Math Forum, Thurs. April 6th, 2017

This will be a 1-Day forum hosted by Cleveland State University in April 2017 (Flyer). Faculty and students are encouraged to attend. For further information please contact: Shawn Ryan. The conference will be held in Parker Hannifin 103 off Euclid Avenue in the heart of Cleveland State’s Campus. Details to come soon! Check back on this website.

This forum will bring together applied math researchers from Case Western, Cleveland State, Kent State, U. Akron, and Youngstown State to discuss current research and foster future collaboration. The first meeting of this kind occured at Kent State University in January 2016 organized by Peter Palffy-Muhoray (Kent St LCI) and Xiaoyu Zheng (KSU Math).
